It's Cold Outside

Posted on November 5, 2011 at 11:35 PM Comments comments (0)

The weather is changing and it's starting to get cold.  The same could be said for magic.  Magic was really hot for a while then it seem to cool down. Magic' has always had it's highs and lows over the years with the general public.

I think it is up to magicians to keep people interested in magic.  Keep your shows interesting and always up to date.  Don't keep doing the same old boring card tricks, there is more to magic then just card tricks.  I m not saying stop doing your card tricks but mix it up with other things.

Practice practice practice before you show something to the public.  To many times I have seen magicians try and show a trick that they don't really   know that well.  That makes you and magic look bad.   I have been performing magic for nearly fourty years and I still practice every day.

Happy 100th Birthday

Today is magic legend John Calvert's 100th birthday. I am proud to call him my friend.  Mr Calvert has lived a life most can only dream about.       He is a dare davil, actor, pilot and of course one of magic's most talented magicians.  He is also one of the nicest people I have every known.  He is always ready to help any young magician will some great advice about magic and performing.

John calls me kid and I love him for that, at 61 it is nice to be called kid.

My wife Dotty and I wish Mr. John Calvert a very very happy 100th birthday and we thank him for all the magic he has given us all over the years.

God Bless You John and we thank God for allowing us to have you in our life.

My Friend Bruce

This month I got to see a friend of mind that I haven't seen in many years.  We have kept in tounch on the phone and on facebook but it was a pleasure to see him in person.  I first met Bruce Kalver when he was only 18 years old.  Even at that young age he was already a seasoned performer.

Bruce was here in Atlanta this month to do his lecture.  Those that were lucky enough to see him now know what I have known for years.  Bruce is a wonderful performer and teacher but more important he is really a good guy.

Bruce is never one to just sit back he is always coming up with something new.  Now he has come up with Magic Gig Slips for iPad which you can now get on the iTunes App Store.  This is a wonderful app for the working magician who books himself.  If you have a ipad then you need this app.

If you have a chance to see him perform or do his lecture make sure you do.

Tomorrow May Never Come

In the past few days I have lost 3 dear friends from my past.  I  did not keep in tounch as I should have, always thinking I would have tomorrow, well tomorrow will never come.  They will never know how I really felt about them.  Each of them touched my life in a special way and help make me the man I have become.   Life is a gift from god that we should hold very dear and can be gone in the blink of an eye.

If there are those in your life that have blessed you just by being a part of your life let them know what they mean to you.  Don't put off until tomorrow for tomorrow may never come.

God bless you Steve, Pavel and Frank you will be missed.

It's Christmas Once More

Posted on December 23, 2010 at 11:54 AM Comments comments (0)

Once again it is Christmas time.  When I was child I throught my dad was nuts when he said " boy does time fly when you get older".  Well now I know what he meant.  My wife I have now been married 39 years, our sons are 36 and 30.  It seems like only yesterday they were sitting on Santa's lap.  Now we watch our grandchildren enjoy Christmas.

Lets never forget what this day is about.  It is about the greatest gift every given, and that was the gift of LOVE in the form of Jesus.

We wish you all a very very Merry Christmas.  My god bless and keep you safe.

Magically yours,

TJ & Dotty

A Rough Road

Posted on July 14, 2010 at 11:49 AM Comments comments (0)

I have been in this business for over 35 years.  We are not rich but we have made a living with our magic.  If you want just wealth then this is not the profession for you.

This has been the worst we have seen.  People just don't have extra money to pay for entertainment.  Even compaines have cut way back on their trade shows.  I do think that things will start to improve, but it will be at a slow pace.

The main thing to do is for all of us to be ready when the shows start picking up.  Practice everyday and work on makeing your show better.

God Bless

Please Please Practice

Posted on July 6, 2010 at 11:22 PM Comments comments (0)

Last week I saw a magician on TV  totally blowing a trick they did.  Now this was suppose to be a top professional magician.  Maybe they didn't understand camera angles or they didn't bother to check and see if this trick was one that was good for TV.  Maybe they just didn't practice enough.  I know we all make mistakes but this was done so poorly it just looked bad.

So please practice practice and then practice some more.

Summer Yes Summer

I thank god for everyday he gives me but I really enjoy summer.  We take our grandson to white water and he always loves it.   I spend a lot of the time at the pool working on some new ideas for our shows.

Please everyone have a happy and fun summer but remember to be safe around water.  God Bless.
